PHYSICAL FEATURES
Location
Leon is a municipality located on the west-southwest part of the Province of Iloilo. It is bounded on the north by Municipality of Alimodian, on the east by Municipality of San Miguel, on the south by Municipality of Tigbauan, and Municipality of Tubungan and Municipality of San Remegio, Province of Antique on the west. It is located between 122°2413” west to 122°24” east longitude and 10°45” south to 10°55” north latitude.

Topography
The municipality of Leon has a terrain ranging from plain to hilly and mountainous.The As a matter of fact, the barangays located on eastern, western and central portion of the municipality were rolling and hilly and areas towards the borders of the municipalities of Alimodian and Tubungan and Province of Antique were mountainous. On the other hand, Barangay Omambong which is located on the south western is the only plain area in the municipality.
The lowest elevation is 50 meters above sea level specifically located from Barangay Omambong to Barangay Poblacion along Sibalom River while the highest elevation can be found within the timberland specifically located at Sitio Igsuming of Barangay Danao. It has an elevation of 1,200 meters above sea level.

Political Subdivision
A 2nd class municipality and belong to 2nd Congressional District of Iloilo. It is approximately 28 kilometers from the city of Iloilo. It has a rugged terrain covering 85 barangays which are subdivided to 205 sitios. Fourteen barangays and 31 sitios were partially or entirely located within the forestlands.
Soil
Leon is generally an agriculture area and soil is fertile and suitable to almost all types of agricultural crops. It is irrigated by Tacuyong and Sibalom Rivers which a source of irrigation for agricultural land. Alimodian soil cover almost 60% of the total land area and the Alimodian clay loam and clay loam soil cover the remaining 40%.
Climate & Rainfall
The climate in the municipality is Type II with distinct wet and dry season. Wet season occur during the months of June to November while dry season is in the months of December to May.
It has varied temperature depending on the altitude. The temperature in the upland particularly in Barangay Bucari is 6 to 7 degrees centigrade lower than the temperature in the lowland which ranges from 25.9 to 29.0 degrees centigrade. With this, the municipality is considered as the Summer Capital of the Province of Iloilo due to its cold climate particularly in Bucari area.
Rainfall reached field capacity in the months of May, November, December and January while full buns were reached in the months of June and July. Heavy rainfall is normally observed in the months of August to October. Although there is some precipitation in the months of March to April but water droplets would not be enough for the lands to be plowed. Typhoons normally occur during the months of June to December. According to the data of PAG-ASA, there are about 4 to 7 typhoons which entered the area of responsibility of Iloilo in the year 1994 to 1995.
Mineral Sources
The riverbed of Sibalom river offers abundant supply of sand, gravel and hardstone for construction purposes. Leon has been a major supplier of aggregate materials for the booming construction industry of Iloilo. The municipality is said to have sufficient deposit of gemstone and coal.

DEMOGRAPHICS
As of 2020 Census of Population by the Philippine Statistics Authority, the municipality holds a total population of 51,990, and a total of 12,173 households. It has a population growth rate of 0.0090 Moreover, the population of the municipality comprises 2.53% of the 2,051,899 total population of the Province of Iloilo.
Ethnicity
The Bukidnons are the registered and recognized indigenous people in Leon by the National Commission on Indigenous People (NCIP). A Datu or Chieftain is the political and spiritual ruler of the tribe. Per record of MPDC Office their present total population is 2,841 broken down per barangay as follows; Cabunga-an -485; Ingay- 353; Cawilihan-310; Maliao- 581; Marirong – 403; Tagsing – 709.
Religion
Almost 90.84% of the population in the municipality is Roman Catholic out of 47,648 individuals. Then Baptist had 5.50% and Protestants with 3.28% while Jehovah’s Witness only had 0.12% and other religion such as Iglesia ni Cristo, Born Again, Aglipay, Muslim and Seventh Day Adventist had 0.27%. Based on Inventory of religious establishment, 70 barangays had catholic churches, some barangays had two or three place of worship compose of Catholic, Baptist, Protestants and only Agboy Sur had a Seventh day Adventist Church.
